Florida State University Heads Back To School With EditShare
EditShare aides educators by enhancing the creative teaching and learning experienceEditShare, the pioneer of cross-platform collaborative editing and shared media storage systems, announced today that Florida State University (FSU) has deployed EditShare to optimize media sharing for their post production facility Seminole Productions. FSU College of Communication students staff the Seminole Productions facility. The students create and deliver client-driven programming as well as packages related to the university's widely popular athletics program. Many of the Seminole Productions programs utilize the same footage, so centralizing media storage and simplifying access to source materials was key in FSU's decision to go with EditShare. "Before the EditShare installation we would ingest media to each suite that needed that specific footage. A tremendous amount of time was spent doing this - and tapes get lost. Now, with EditShare, we ingest media once and make it available to all edit suites immediately and simultaneously," comments Mark Rodin, Director of Seminole Productions. "With EditShare we were able to cut down significantly the amount of time we spent ingesting media and work with the students on the art of editing." Seminole Productions provides FSU students an educational environment in which they can learn their craft while working on real-world productions. The facility boasts 14 edit suites equipped with industry-standard products from Adobe, Apple, Avid, Boris, and Lightwave. Leveraging cost effective Gigabit Ethernet technology, EditShare provides a unique shared access workflow among the various applications as well as a straight-forward methodology for media and project protection - eliminating overwrites and accidental media deletion. The workflow is ideal for the FSU students and educators who leverage EditShare capabilities to raise the level of communications and creativity. "A student editor can call down to another suite or to one of the staff producers/editors and say, 'take a look at this and see what you think', and that person can see it on their editing system and offer feedback immediately. It really opens up communication and collaboration," comments Rodin. "EditShare has become an integral part of the education process and adds tremendous value for students learning in this real-world environment." EditShare also allowed the FSU students to make their projects more "mobile". With EditShare, students can go to any available edit suite and log on to access their project. No longer are students tied to a specific editing suite; this increases the efficiency and productivity of the entire Seminole Productions' operation.

Bluefish444 and BUG.tv Team Up for NFL Sunday Night Football on NBC
BUG.tv, a leader in workflow and automation innovation in the broadcast industry, has incorporated Bluefish444's HD|Fury card in its CLASS-BUG HD video server system, which is being used in the broadcast of 'NFL Sunday Night Football on NBC' games. According to Nielsen Research, 'NFL Sunday Night Football on NBC' is the most-watched fall program with 22 million viewers. Earlier this year, NBC utilized the CLASS-BUG HD system with HD|Fury for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. Based on its flawless performance during the Winter Games, with over 3,000 playouts (3 times the previous average), NBC decided to include the CLASS-BUG HD in its production workflow for the high audience programming 'NFL Sunday Night Football on NBC'. Motion graphics can be created or edited at the very last moment, then played back to air through the HD|Fury video card from Bluefish444. Francois Savard, CEO of BUG.tv, states, "This is a significant technical and operational advance compared to the hardware used previously, where the content creator had a more rigid workflow. Utilizing the CLASS-BUG HD system, which incorporates Bluefish444's HD|Fury card, provides them with flexibility and lower operating costs." CLASS-BUG HD is a professional grade motion graphics server aimed at on-air presentation. The CLASS-BUG HD is ideal for applications that require integration with an external keyer, such as a master control switcher. Based on the Macintosh platform, the server fits perfectly with Motion, After Effects and Final Cut Pro, avoiding conversion and double-checking procedures. CLASS-BUG HD outputs its signal in HD-SDI for video and AES/EBU for audio, providing top quality signals for on-air distribution and ensuring compatibility with existing equipment. It supports various control protocols, including VDCP, Web-based and VTR protocols. The HD|Fury, which is used frequently in broadcast applications, is a 10-bit single link I/O video card with real-time hardware HD to SD down-conversion and 8 channels of digital audio. HD|Fury's hardware overlay for internal keying is a critical feature for on-air graphics. Craige Mott, Managing Director of Bluefish444, comments, "Both Bluefish444 and BUG.tv are committed to offering robust broadcast solutions that simplify workflows in a cost-efficient manner. We're pleased that BUG.tv has chosen the HD|Fury to incorporate into their CLASS-BUG HD system, which is being utilized by leading broadcasters worldwide."

ION Media Networks Simplifies Media Sharing Workflows with EditShare
Largest television station group selects EditShare to manage media sharing and optimize downstream workflowEditShare announced that ION Media Networks ("ION") has deployed EditShare to manage media sharing and simplify downstream transmission workflows for their creative services department. ION, formerly Paxson Communications, owns and operates the largest television station group with 60 broadcast stations reaching over 92 million homes in the U.S. The ION creative services team utilizes Apple Final Cut Pros, Avid Adrenalines, Maya and Graphics/Web design stations to create graphics and promotions for group stations. The various content creation systems did not seamlessly integrate with one another, creating an awkward media sharing process and downstream transmission workflow. The creative team had to first put their promotions to tape; then ingest; then transcode and deliver media files via Telestream downstream to an Omneon video server located at ION’s Network Operations Center in another city. "EditShare solved all the pain points associated with working on cross-platform, proprietary systems," comments Robert Cummings, chief engineer for ION Media Networks in West Palm Beach. "Not only were we able to share media files across systems, we were able to eliminate tapes and maintain a high-quality transmission process. All of this at a third of the cost of other comparable solutions." EditShare technology allowed all of the ION content creation applications to share a common pool of media files - removing the need for tapes and compression. Unlike typical SANs, EditShare systems support File Level Sharing - allowing multiple editors to write to the same volume simultaneously. Further, the system's unique Avid Project Sharing feature allows multiple Avid editors to open up and work from the same Avid Project simultaneously, gaining instant read-only access to each others' bins and sequences. "These super charged content creation systems have typically been islands of proprietary technology that offered limited project sharing or required expensive Fibre network solutions to manage media assets. EditShare changes all this by enabling editors, graphic artists and sound mixers to work collaboratively, giving them access to a common, automatically protected pool of media files leveraging inexpensive Gigabit Ethernet technologies," comments Andy Liebman, CEO, EditShare. The EditShare installation has had an enormous impact on cost savings for ION. Tapes, tape handling, and storage are no longer needed. Engineers need only to support one solution instead of several. EditShare's cross platform media management capabilities negate the need for costly proprietary hardware to facilitate media sharing and delivery. The bottom line benefits are optimized workflows, higher quality results, and reduced costs.
