Bluefish444 Adds Autodesk 3ds Max Support

Bluefish444 has added a range of capabilities directly within Autodesk 3ds Max, taking advantage of HD and SD input and output features. Widely requested by customers, 3ds Max users with Bluefish444 video cards are now able to monitor HD and SD from the 3ds Max render preview. This feature allows 3ds Max artists to preview output in broadcast color space instead of relying solely on VGA monitors which can vary in quality and accuracy.

Highlights

* 3ds Max users can take advantage of HDTV and SDTV broadcast monitoring including automatic preview scaling when the renderer output is different than the output video mode of the Bluefish444 hardware.

* 3ds Max utilizes Bluefish444's on-board keyer (when available) for superimposition of the rendered preview over live video.

* Artists may preview RGB or alpha channel data on a broadcast monitor.

* A frame of a video signal present on the inputs of Bluefish444 hardware may be used as a static texture; grab it to any 3ds Max-supported bitmap format or use it as a Viewport Background for rotoscoping or tracing.

* All Bluefish444 plug-in settings are saved within the 3ds Max project file.

3ds Max support is included as part of Bluefish444's new v5.4.8 installer, freely downloadable from the Bluefish444 web site. The new 3ds Max plug-in is for v8 and v9 of 3ds Max and supports all Bluefish444 video cards.

Boris RED 4.1 called "Absolute Buy!" on Creative Mac

Here is an excerpt from the review:

"I have to admit, I went into looking at Boris RED a little skeptical, and walked away almost speechless. RED is an excellent product that every editor should have to complement Motion 3. With Motion's new 3D capabilities, and the effects and graphical WOW of Boris RED, any editor with Final Cut Studio will be able to put a smile on even the most particular client's face. "

DMN Podcast: EditShare's Andy Liebman on Production Workflow

Smaller studios can now have what major studios have long enjoyed

"If you have ever worked on a project that had multiple editors on it you know the frustration that comes with having to sit and wait until one person was done with the media you needed. You waited and then even more frustrating or time consuming had to go and load the media onto a portable drive for your perusal or workflow. Although this worked for most it is about to become extinct.

What only the big boys at the studios had can now be afforded by smaller independent studios. Welcome to EditShare.

I had the opportunity to meet with EditShare President Andy Liebman last week for dinner. I was so blown away by what EditShare was able to do to the production workflow that I twisted Andy's arm to be on the show. His need for a better workflow prompted him to create EditShare.

The story is both inspiring and informative."

EditShare Ships Version 5.0

EditShare has begun shipping version 5.0, the latest release of the award-winning EditShare shared storage solutions. This new release adds significant enhancements including "plug and play" for easy deployment, a streamlined file management structure to organize media files with greater speed and ease, and daily "health" reports on server activity.

"From day one, we have designed EditShare systems to not only support but advance file-based workflows for media-centric environments. Version 5.0 is no exception. A customer driven release, we are confident that our users will be very pleased with the vastly simplified media sharing experience and impressed with the immense workflow benefits from features such as the new Health Report and Synchronization Tool," comments Andy Liebman, founder and president, EditShare.

"The changes to EditShare 5.0 have improved our edit workflow substantially. With a large number of users connected, the system would need to re-scan to make new media available to all suites. Now the media appears seamlessly and there is no interruption to the workflow. Add to this the bulletproof reliability that we've been experiencing with our EditShare systems and it truly is the cost effective yet powerful solution that we've been searching for," comments Michael Burton, general manager, Cutting Edge.

EditShare Version 5.0 New Feature Highlights

* Simplified Media Management: Multiple levels of file protection. New "Read Only" option. New "Maintenance Mode" for deleting and modifying files.

* Tighter Control Using Limited Administration Rights: Grant specific controls on a per-user and per-Media Space basis. Authorized editors exercise their admin rights through EditShare Connect.

* Improved Shared Avid Projects: Warnings that other users' bins are locked. Move nested folders and bins without having to worry about permissions. Works flawlessly under both OS X and Windows.

* "Plug and Play" Network Configuration: EditShare can now be configured to act just a like a "switch" for easy deployment. Plug in your workstations and connect to media or anything on the office network.

* Powerful Synchronization Tool: Duplicate media files across two or more servers - whether they're located in the same building or on the other side of the world.

* Daily "Health Report": Administrators receive a daily email detailing server status and performance.

EditShare Announces the Addition of Apple Final Cut Pro Project Sharing to the EditShare Product Family

First to deliver Project Sharing workflows for both Apple and Avid editing systems

EditShare has announced the addition of Apple Final Cut Pro (FCP) Project Sharing capabilities to the EditShare product family. Deployed first for Avid systems and editors, the widely popular EditShare Project Sharing technology provides tremendous collaborative workflow benefits by enabling multiple editors to work on the same project simultaneously. EditShare is the only collaborative workflow and shared storage solution to offer project sharing for Apple FCP and Avid editing systems.

"EditShare is more than shared storage - it is workflow and collaboration tools for creative teams," comments Andy Liebman, founder and president, EditShare. "We design and develop solutions customized for the creative post process. Innovative features such as Final Cut Pro and Avid Project Sharing are perfect examples of unique benefits the EditShare workflow offers. They reinforce our commitment in delivering the very best collaborative solutions for creative environments."

For the first time, Apple FCP editors can enjoy the same tremendous collaborative workflow benefits that previously were only available to Avid editors. The new EditShare Apple FCP Project Sharing feature allows multiple Apple FCP editors to simultaneously open up and work from the same projects. EditShare Project Sharing is seamless, eliminating time consuming exporting and importing of XML files and duplication of FCP project files. As with all EditShare systems, the rights management and rules driven architecture allow administrators to pre-define user access and prevent overwrites, further enhancing the overall exchange of media and creative workflow across all post environments.

* An assistant editor can digitize clips, organize into subclips while the senior editor simultaneously reviews the material;

* Journalists can assemble stories and the journalist can review the packages in progress - extracting clips and sound bytes to create the promo;

* Editors working on a reality show can share the same "master clips" and "subclips" without duplicating media files or projects. The executive producer can preview a sequence at his desk while editing of the sequence continues.

The EditShare Project Sharing functionality for Apple FCP will ship as part of the EditShare 5.0 standard feature set in Q3 2007. Existing EditShare 5.0 customers will be provided an update with the new Apple FCP Project Sharing feature free of charge.
