New EditShare Customer Profile: Undbitte Entertainment
Undbitte Entertainment is one of the busiest post-production facilities in Germany. Its list of prime-time series includes popular hits such as Big Brother, Quiz Taxi, and the new show Poker Bus. Georg von Kreisner, Technical Director for Post Production, notes that each of the shows has unique technical demands, but all produce huge volumes of material with short turn-around schedules.
Undbitte Entertainment has relied on EditShare to streamline their production workflows over the past two years. Von Kreisner says EditShare's unique Avid Project Sharing which allows multiple editors to simultaneously edit show content is a dramatic time-saver. This is especially important to meet the short turn-arounds that are an inherent part of reality television...

Create an Animatic Slug with PowerProduction StoryBoard Artist
Everyone's familiar with the storyboarding process as it relates to film production. It helps a producer and director bring a screenplay to life. But have you ever thought about how storyboarding could streamline editing and post-production? Imagine creating a visual outline to guide your editing, before you even start collecting footage. Imagine a full-length animatic, complete with music, right in your NLE timeline - to overlay footage onto, making constructing a scene a snap. Imagine creating animatic slug scenes from your own images or from a library of supplied images to round out your unfinished sequences.
All of this is possible using PowerProduction StoryBoard Artist. With Storyboard Artist, an editor no longer has to screen unfinished sequences with 'shot missing' or 'scene missing' slates. Instead the editor can create animatics to import into their NLE timeline. Check out this new tutorial to learn more.

EditShare Scores C&T Award for 'Best Tapeless Digital Workflow'
EditShare took home the C&T 2007 for Best Tapeless Digital Workflow for a project/facility roll out. Submitted in conjunction with Cutting Edge, Australia's largest privately owned post facility, EditShare won the coveted C&T Award for the widely popular reality TV show "Big Brother".
About the EditShare / Cutting Edge Project Cutting Edge Managing Director Michael Burton proposed a tapeless workflow as a means to improve turnaround times for fast paced reality TV shows such as Big Brother. The transition to a tapeless workflow solved several critical issues and reduced overall costs of the operation. No longer did the team have to double-handle media. With EditShare, editors have instant access to high resolution source material via Gigabit Ethernet networks 24 hours a day.
The Cutting Edge / EditShare System Overview
* Integration of a Content Management System that includes live and proxy video generation, simple searching, and basic timeline editing
* Avid ALE generation and transfer to editing suites
* Control of a EVS disk capture system, capturing 6 live feeds continually
* Automatic transfer of 6 video streams to a 30TB EditShare system
The system was successfully used 24 hours a day for the three month Australian Big Brother '07 series. The EditShare workflow comprised of 10 Adrenaline suites and 10 proxy editing suites editing 2:1 realtime off the EditShare server.

New EditShare Customer Profile: West Virginia University
The Television Production Department at WVU is a busy operation, turning out more than 50+ "Mountainer Magazine" and "Mountaineer Jammin" programs for the Mountaineer Network which is syndicated and carried by several TV stations in the region. These and a full schedule of live Mountaineer Network game coverage of football, basketball, and other sports and campus activities keep the WVU team at full tilt. With the workload growing, Manager of Communications Engineering Fred Marstiller needed to streamline the operation and move towards an integrated file-based workflow to keep up with demand.
With each of the five Avid edit suites a stand-alone unit, there was no way to share material; valuable time was wasted digitizing tapes and waiting for materials. That all changed when WVU installed an EditShare system loaded with 36TB of storage. Unlike other shared storage systems, the Network Attached Storage (NAS) EditShare solution is uniquely optimized for postproduction workflows, offering software tools such as Avid project sharing that maximize collaboration for multi-user environments such as WVU.
